Camden in Bloom 2015 - Open for entries

Camden Council’s 2015 Camden in Bloom business and residential competition is now open for entries.

The competition got off to a running start recently with help from GoodGym Camden.

Twenty-eight volunteers from GoodGym Camden, which combines weekly runs with assisting with community projects, collectively ran 155 kilometres to six green spaces across the borough to put up banners promoting the annual horticulture and sustainability competition.

Camden have once again partnered with Project Dirt to build on the success of last year’s Camden in Bloom. The competition categories are:

  • Best community growing project
  • Best individual garden
  • Best balcony
  • Best business entrance
  • Best environmental project.

Judges will take into account visual impact, design, benefit to the local community and positive impact on the local environment.

More than a gardening competition, this year’s Camden in Bloom theme is ‘greener together’, celebrating the environmental benefits of green spaces in Camden.

This is an exciting opportunity, not only to make the borough even more beautiful but to contribute to values of longer-term sustainability, health and wellbeing.

Cllr Meric Apak, Cabinet Member for Sustainability and Environment
"Camden in Bloom is a fantastic opportunity for residents and businesses to come together to make the borough a greener place to live, work and visit. Whether you have created a dazzling balcony garden, are part of a community growing project or you have transformed your business entrance, there are plenty of chances to be recognised for your efforts to create and improve green spaces for all to enjoy.”

Shaun Dixon from GoodGym Camden said:“GoodGym is all about getting fit while doing good. Our volunteers really enjoyed the orienteering challenge of running to find the locations where the banners needed to be tied to fences.”

Former Blue Peter gardener Chris Collins will be running a free workshops on 13 July to give ideas and tips for sprucing up your green space. Book via Eventbrite. The competition closes on 17 July, so start planning your entries. All prize-winners will receive a certificate and a voucher from the Camden Garden Centre.
