Camden Council signs Heritage Partnership Agreement for Kings Cross station

Camden Council, in partnership with Network Rail and Historic England have recently signed a Heritage Partnership Agreement (HPA) relating to Kings Cross Station.

This agreement makes the process of undertaking works to the listed building quicker and more efficient, removing the need to make an application for listed building consent for certain agreed works.

The station is a Grade I listed building, meaning previously that all changes which effected the historic or architectural significance of the building, had to be agreed with the Council - who are the Planning Authority, and Historic England before being granted Listed Building Consent, which gives consent for the work to be undertaken.

Councillor Danny Beales, Cabinet Member for Investing in Communities and an Inclusive Economy
“This is an impressive outcome that is testament to the positive approach of all the parties involved.

“Camden is rich with architectural gems, including King’s Cross Station, one of the best known locations within the borough.

“This new agreement means that minor changes to the buildings will no longer need to go through the full planning process. The station will benefit from this clear approach, which will protect this historical building, whilst facilitating the changes that all working buildings require over time.”
