Camden Apprentices - changes to our eligibility criteria

You are probably familiar with Camden Council’s apprenticeship service; we create apprenticeship vacancies both in the Council and with external employers throughout the year in a wide range of subject areas. We wanted to let you know about some important changes to our eligibility criteria for some roles.

Apprenticeships open to people aged 25+

Whilst our vacancies continue to cater for 16-24 year olds, some of these are now open to people aged 25+ as well. Apprenticeships can be a great way to start a new career, gain confidence and achieve the qualifications to prove your competence in a specific field. Many employers are willing to offer flexible and/or part time hours to help their employees fit work around other commitments.

Eligibility criteria

For the majority of our vacancies, our eligibility criteria is as follows. Candidates must:

  • Be a Camden resident or former Camden secondary school student
  • Be aged 16 or above
  • Not have a degree or Level 4 qualification

There are a few exceptions to this. Please see individual job adverts for details at www.camden.gov.uk/apprenticeships.

Entry requirements

For the majority of our roles, we do not ask for specific GCSE or A level grades and our focus is on attitude, commitment and enthusiasm. We carry out basic skills assessments for those who do not have GCSEs in Maths and English to ensure that they meet the minimum entry requirements for an apprenticeship (Entry Level 3).

Not all our roles are for people aged 25+

Please note, at present only some of our roles are open to people aged 25+, not all of them. To avoid disappointment, candidates should check the entry criteria for each job before they apply. We hope that the number of roles open to those aged 25+ will increase over the coming months.

Registering with Camden Apprenticeships and joining our mailing list

It is not compulsory to register with our service before applying for a role. However, referral agencies and candidates may prefer to register so that they are on our mailing list and receive our weekly email updates about new opportunities. These are normally all available to view on our website too (see the link above). If you or your clients want to join our mailing list, please let us know by calling 020 7974 8778 or email [email protected]
