Bring a picnic not a barbecue to our parks during heatwave

Following London Fire Brigade advice, we’ve introduced a temporary ban on barbecues in Camden’s parks to prevent grass fires during the current heatwave.

However, we don’t want to stop anyone from having fun in the sun – so we’re getting out our blankets, scotch eggs and ginger beer and asking you to have picnics instead of barbecues.

Councillor Adam Harrison, Cabinet Member for Improving Camden’s Environment, said: “We’re experiencing exceptionally hot weather at the moment which means the grass in our parks is extremely dry. Following advice from the London Fire Brigade, who have seen a dramatic increase in grass fires, we have introduced a temporary barbecue ban in Camden’s parks. These are exceptional circumstances but we need to take extra care to make sure we’re all safe. We don’t want to spoil people’s fun, so we’re encouraging you to come down to our parks and bring a picnic to enjoy with your friends and family.”

So put on your sun cream, bring refreshments and make the most of the summer sun in our parks and open spaces!
