Adult learners’ achievements celebrated at awards

Adult learners and the dedicated staff and volunteers who support them were recognised at the annual Learning Celebration event at the British Museum on Friday (15 July).

The achievements of learners and the outstanding contribution of volunteers were marked with awards presented by the Mayor of Camden, Councillor Nadia Shah, as well as Peter Dudley, the Council’s director of education, and Eve Stickler, director of early intervention and prevention.

Learning champion awards were presented to supporters of adult learning in libraries, schools and partner voluntary organisations.

The event was organised by the Council’s adult community learning service, which has just been rated 'good' again by Ofsted in its latest inspection report.

Tributes were also paid to the retiring head of the adult community learning service, Jennie Lavis. Jennie recently helped to set up and run the pioneering Parent Academy which helps parents of primary school pupils to support their children's learning in English and maths.
